According to his lawyer, Simranjit Singh Mann has filed a lawsuit challenging the administration’s decision to deny him entry into the Union territory.
Mann has been protesting the administration’s decision for three consecutive nights in Lakhanpur. On Thursday, the protest will enter its fourth day.
On Monday evening, Kathua District Magistrate Rahul Pandey stopped the MP from Sangrur in Punjab, leading to the protest of the politician and his supporters.
A senior superintendent of police informed Pandey under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) that Mann was scheduled to enter Jammu and Kashmir and his visit would likely disrupt public tranquility. Pandey issued an order under this section.
Thru advocate T N Gupta, Mann challenged the district magistrate’s order denying him entry into Jammu and Kashmir in the court of the chief judicial magistrate of Kathua.
Mann has challenged the order on the grounds that he was granted approval for his visit to the Union territory a few days ago, according to Gupta.
He left for J&K on October 17 (from Punjab). However, when he reached here, he was denied entry into J&K by the district magistrate of Kathua, which was in violation of the protocol for his visit, Gupta said.
On Thursday, the matter will be discussed.
Mann has also requested the restoration of his rights as a senior citizen and an elected member of parliament, Gupta said.
