BJP leader Shobha Rani Kushwaha alleges the BJP has failed to fulfill promises made to the Kushwaha community in Rajasthan after she was suspended from the party for cross-voting in Rajya Sabha polls.
She also claimed she was being thrown out of politics by the party leadership.
The BJP’s national leadership wants to expel Kushwaha from politics by breaking society’s unity in 2023. “We have won the Dholpur seat three times already. If we win it again, our stature will rise. They only want a Kushwaha that says yes to them.” Kushwaha said in a press release.
In addition, she accused the BJP of pursuing the community purely for electoral purposes and for the vote bank it brings. It was alleged that BJP leaders worked against their own candidates on multiple occasions during panchayath and municipal elections.
“Is the BJP going to take action against other party leaders who are involved in anti-party activities?” she asked. The BJP’s disciplinary committee reportedly sent Kushwaha a show-cause notice on Friday, asking her to submit a response explaining why she shouldn’t be expelled from the party for allegedly crossing the aisle.
She was accused of violating the party’s whip by not voting for the BJP candidate and casting her ballot for a candidate from another party, in violation of the party’s constitution.
In the notice, she was said to have violated party rules by not voting for the BJP candidate and instead voting for the candidate of another party, which is also against the party constitution.
In a letter, the BJP stated that she was suspended from membership for the time being.
By Friday afternoon, all 200 Rajasthan MLAs had cast their votes in the Rajya Sabha elections. Gulab Chand Kataria, the leader of the opposition, admitted that one BJP MLA had cross-voted, which could potentially make it harder for Independent candidate Subhash Chandra to win.
