An audit conducted by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in five zones of Uttarakhand found 36 bridges unfit for traffic.
The safety audit report has been received by the government, according to the principal secretary of the PWD Department, RK Sudhanshu.
He said that the government had instructed district magistrates to set up a bridge bank so that new bridges could be built on time.
As the government planned to replace the old and dilapidated bridges with new ones, authorities were required to submit the audit report within three weeks.
A cable suspension bridge collapsed in Morbi town of Gujarat on October 30, killing at least 135 people and injuring over 100. Search and rescue operations were carried out at the scene of the collapse of the 143-year-old Morbi bridge by the Indian Coast Guard, the Indian Navy, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
