Lalan Singh had abducted a 4-year-old girl of a daily wage labourer raped her and then killed her
The Surat District and Sessions Court announced a death sentence to the accused in the rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl from Puna Gam within 104 days.
The accused had abducted the daughter of a daily wage labourer from below the bridge opposite Reshma row house in PunaGam on April 13 when the family was asleep. The man and his wife were asleep with their daughter. Around 2am, the wife woke up to find the child missing. She woke up her husband and searched around the place. When they could not find the girl, they contacted the Puna police late at night. The Puna police immediately checked the CCTV footage and even questioned locals nearby. The CCTV footage led them to Ramprasada alias Lalan Singh Mahesh Singh. When questioned, he confessed he had abducted the girl to rape her and had then killed her and buried her at a secluded place. Lalan Singh had then led them to an open plot at Bhaiya Nagar vegetable market behind a parked tempo where he had buried the child under the garbage.
The case was heard by then additional district and sessions judge P S Kala and presently by judge D P Gohil who accepted the arguments of government lawyer Nayan Sukhadwala and the evidence presented.
Lalan Singh said he was scared after the girl opened her eyes and started crying, so he had killed her with a 15 kg stone and then buried her in a nearby ditch.
According to the government lawyer, the court has also ordered a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the family.
