Colonel Ajay Kothiyal (retd) resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday (May 18, 2022), the day before the party’s election as chief minister in Uttarakhand.
A soft copy of the former army officer’s resignation letter was posted on Twitter.
I was a member of the Aam Aadmi Party from April 19, 2021, to May 18, 2022. In his letter to AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “I am resigning on May 18 in consideration of the feelings of ex-soldiers, ex-paramilitary personnel, elders, women, youth, and intellectuals.
Kothiyal lost his refundable deposit from the Gangotri assembly seat, notably. He was angered by the way he was treated by the AAP following the assembly poll debacle in February.
A party meeting to review its performance in Uttarakhand held recently in New Delhi also did not include him, according to reports.
Kejriwal had then said Kothiyal’s selection as his party’s chief ministerial candidate was based on feedback from people in the state when announcing the former army officer as the party’s CM candidate.
Despite fielding candidates for all 70 seats in the state elections, the AAP was unable to open its bank account.
