Amidst #BoycottBrahmastra trend, Alia Bhatt says there is no ‘negative environment

In theaters this Friday, September 9, is the much-anticipated fantasy adventure epic Brahmastra. The big-budget entertainer features Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles.

During the film’s promotion in Delhi on Wednesday, September 7, the trio visited the city.

#BoycottBrahmastra has trended on Twitter each day over the past few days as social media users call for boycotting the film. The Bajrang Dal activists also prevented Ranbir and Alia from entering the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain on Tuesday, September 6 due to the former actor’s past ‘beef’ remarks.

Prior to the film’s release, the media asked the Highway actress whether this was the right time to release the movie. As Alia said, “There is no such thing. It is a beautiful environment to release a movie. Right now, we just need to be healthy, happy, safe, secure. We should all be thankful for life. Please do not spread any negativity about this. Everything is good, and we are thankful that theatres are functioning again and that films are now being shown in theatres. Our work is very rewarding and we are grateful to be able to share a film with the public.”

Besides Ranbir and Alia, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna also appear in Brahmastra, with Shah Rukh Khan making a guest appearance. Having directed Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani nine years ago, Ayan Mukerji returns to directing.

The film marks Alia’s fourth release of the year following Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and SS Rajamouli’s RRR. Last month, she wowed audiences and critics with her performance in Darlings on Netflix.
