Amritsar: Drone delivered 8 hi-tech pistols to peddler who had 2 kg heroin

After recovering eight hi-tech pistols and 2 kg heroin, suspected to have been delivered from Pakistan through drones, a special task force of the Punjab Police arrested an alleged smuggler, Paramjit Singh, alias Pamma.

In response to intelligence inputs, Pamma, a resident of Hawelian village in Tarn Taran district, was arrested on Meerakot-Kherbad road. According to Pamma, another smuggler collected the illegal consignment from the border and handed it over to her. During the intervening night of November 25/26, a drone is believed to have dropped eight pistols, including two Glock pistols made in Turkey and six in China. The border belt has been seized for the first time with Glock brand pistols. A burst of 30 bullets can be fired in one go from the pistols, causing extensive damage.

He was allegedly on his way to deliver the heroin further when he was arrested, according to DSP Vavinder Mahajan. According to him, investigations are under way to identify the smugglers who delivered the contraband to Pamma. To determine the accused’s connections with other smugglers, including those from Pakistan, forensic examinations will be conducted on his mobile phones.

Pamma is facing two criminal charges in Haryana related to weapons and fake currency. A year ago, he was released on bail from a jail in Hisar. Police claimed he was working for another alleged smuggler, Kuldeep Singh of Haryana, whom he had met seven years previously in the Hisar jail. Currently, Kuldeep lives in Dubai.

Pamma is the cousin of Iqbal Singh Shera, who is charged with smuggling 532 kg of heroin. Customs officials confiscated the contraband in June 2019. Police officials said Shera had not yet been arrested.
