Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) former working president Ashok Singhal has been honored at Lucknow’s iconic Burlington Crossing.
Six areas, including parks, roads, and a stadium, have been renamed in Lucknow by the city’s executive committee after Hindu ideologues, freedom fighters, soldiers, late politicians, and social workers.
Shia cleric Maulana Mirza Mohammad Athar, founder president of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, has been honored with a road renamed to Meena Bakery Crossing in Rajajipuram.
Suheldev Rajbhar, a legendary medieval Indian king who ruled Shravasti and fought the Muslim invaders, has been named the trisection near his statue at Lalbagh. The SBSP, a former ally of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, is headed by Suheldev Rajbhar, who is the party’s ideologue.
Azad Nagar Colony will also be renamed after a freedom fighter, though the name has not been finalized. In addition to Mangal Pandey, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sarojini Naidu, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Babu Kunwar Singh, the mayor will select from a list of 1857 revolt heroes.
There will be a road named after freedom fighter Sohan Lal Saxena in Aliganj, a street near the Amiruddaula Public Library named after artist Prof Sukhvir Sanghal at the Alambagh Teripulia Trisection, a park named after Chandra Shekhar Azad in Sanjay Gandhi Puram Colony, and a street named Digambar Jain Temple Marg near Ashiana Power House. In Lucknow, municipal polls are scheduled just weeks before the streets are renamed.
