Center ahead of US-India clean energy dialogue: India handled energy crisis responsibly, maturely

Washington: Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said Thursday that India has handled its current energy crisis responsibly and maturely without affecting any portion of its population.

India-US energy cooperation has a huge potential, according to the minister.

Today, when we talk about energy, it assumes a different (connotation). But I am hopeful that it will pass. At a reception hosted by India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu in his honour, Puri said that we had navigated through the challenges in a responsible and mature manner.

Despite heavy flooding in parts of the Northeast, I do not believe energy shortages have affected any part of our population. As Puri told a select group at India House here, “There have never been any shortages, and we are confident we can continue with this.”

On Friday, the minister will meet with US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

According to the top Indian minister, we will need to open a green corridor for discussing energy-related issues as we move forward.
According to Puri, also the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, he will visit Houston for more energy from American companies, as well as greener fuels for the transition to sustainable energy.
