UT’s heritage will be preserved through a five-day visit by a team of French experts.
Under the chairmanship of UT Adviser Dharam Pal, senior officials of the administration met with French experts to discuss the plan of action for protecting, conserving, and restoring the city’s heritage.
There were a number of reasons why the meeting was delayed, but it had been long overdue.
The French ministry has sent a 10-member team headed by Brigittee Bouvier, Director of Fondation Le Corbusier.
There will be a conservation scientist, a heritage restoration expert, a conservation architect, a representative from the French Central Director of the Judicial Police, an architect, and the Inspector General of Historic Monuments from the French Ministry of Culture in the city until November 19.
To protect, conserve, and preserve UT’s heritage furniture items, a ‘Heritage Items Protection Cell’ was established in 2016. Further reorganization took place in 2019.
Under the chairmanship of a senior UT architect, the Heritage Items Identification & Inspection Committee (HIIIC) was formed in March, 2020.
So far, the HIIIC has inventoried and inspected heritage/unserviceable items at different departments, institutions, and offices.
Authenticity, tagging, legal protection, and preservation guidelines/processes will all be established by the team in collaboration with the administration.
A series of meetings will be held with nodal officers appointed by different departments, institutions, and offices during the visit to identify heritage items
