A procurement process started on Saturday for nearly 11 lakh metric tons of paddy expected to arrive in Jalandhar district mandis.
At the New Grain Market near city, Rashpal Singh of Gill village brought the first pile of crop purchased for the season. Additionally, procurement started at Bhogpur, Mehatpur, Shahkot, and Kartarpur mandis simultaneously.
There are 12 flying squads tasked with preventing illegal paddy crop inflow from other states. As part of this operation, the tehsildars and naib tehsildars of various market committees will lead these squads in Jalandhar Cantt, Adampur, Bhogpur, Phillaur, Noormahal, Bilga, Goraya, Shahkot, Lohian Khas, Nakodar, and Mehatpur.
The control room also provides a mechanism for reporting bogus procurement, illegal recycling, and illegal purchases. In the district, there are 78 regular mandis. There are also 28 temporary procurement centers.
At the local New Grain Market, Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh was accompanied by Kartarpur MLA Balkar Singh and Jalandhar West MLA Raman Arora to initiate the paddy purchase. As far as the DC was concerned, all the necessary arrangements had been made. For this season, gunny bags were available in sufficient quantities.
