‘Demand Of The Time’: AIIMS Delhi creates mobile app for eye patients

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has developed a mobile application to help eye patients and create awareness about various procedures at the hospital.

Among the information provided by the app is information about the admission procedure, eye transplant, and post-surgery follow-up.

Dr JS Titiyal, AIIMS Delhi, RP Centre Chief, told ANI that the application is a matter of time and will speed up treatment.

A physical approach might be difficult sometimes, especially for people from far-off places. COVID has also made us realize that you have to approach people in a different way.

Further, he said that if developed, the mobile app could allow doctors to interact directly with patients.

“We are going to have a camera system in that that will take a photograph of the eye, especially the interior part, cornea, and then we can view it in the national eye bank, which works 24/7 and reports back to the patient if they have an eye condition. The timeframe for admission and transplantation can be provided to them if they are registered with us,” Dr Titiyal added.

According to Dr Titiyal, a patient with an eye transplant should be treated within a few days if they develop a rejection after surgery. It is, however, possible to immediately assess the patient’s condition and to transport him to a nearby hospital with the help of the application.

According to him, the app can also be used to connect people to hospitals where they are trained for transplantation.

The doctor also said training will be provided to explain the kind of treatment required for any patient as part of the mobile app, stating that AIIMS will also be connected to other hospitals for any kind of support during or after transplantation.

The app will only be an AIIMS entity, as it is not of the extraordinary type. It will be a simple app where you will be able to have a photographic relationship. India has now become a country where everyone has access to Wi-Fi. Nowadays, everyone has a smartphone. As a result, this will be a simple approach,” he said.
