Hemant Kumar Lohia, the DGP of the Jammu and Kashmir Prison Department, died on October 3 under mysterious circumstances at his Jammu residence.
There is a suspicion that the domestic help may have murdered the DGP. Lohia and his family were staying at a friend’s house while his house was being renovated.
A search is underway for the absconding domestic help, according to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh. Yasir, originally from Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir, has been identified as the domestic help.
At his Udaiwala residence, Lohia, 57, had his throat slit. DGP Prisons was posted to him in August. His body has also been found to have burn injuries.
A body of Shri Hemant Lohia, DG Prisons JK, has been discovered in suspicious circumstances. Upon examination of the scene, it appears that there is a suspicion of murder. The officer’s domestic help has absconded, and forensic teams and crime teams are on the scene. A search for him has begun. An investigation has begun. Senior officers are present on the scene. A deep sense of grief and sorrow is felt by the J&K police family about the death of their senior officer,” the ADGP.
Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Police, told that the killer had first suffocated Lohia to death before slitting his throat with a broken ketchup bottle. In addition, he attempted to set the officer on fire.
