Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy issued a clarification on the Odisha Government Order on Wednesday, directing the District Authorities not to bring COVID-19 cases to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

He tweeted that the government had not prohibited the movement of patients to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

He also said that the lack of care in these matters has led to serious consequences in the past. “The referral of patients with proper medical support will help in the further management of the disease at the referral point and will save their lives,” he added.

PK Mohapatra had initially re-committed authorities to treat vital COVID-19 patients in the ICU or High Dependency Unit (HDU) on Tuesday. Instead of referring them to Bhubaneswar or Cuttack, PK Mohapatra had named other Chief Secretary.

In a letter to senior officials in charge of COVID-19 management in Odisha, Development Commissioner Suresh Mohapatra also stated that the COVID facilities available at district level must be used to the fullest extent possible before the patient is referred to COVID hospitals in Bhubaneswar.
