Ghulam Nabi Azad’s support led to the resignation of four more Congress leaders and 12 Apni Party workers in J&K

The Congress leader asked senior leaders whether they shouted ‘chowkidar chor hai’ in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Azad said.

In support of veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad, four Congress leaders and twelve Apni Party workers resigned on Monday.

In a resignation letter, Azad said Rahul Gandhi had destroyed the party’s “consultative mechanism”.

Azad had declined to be party’s campaign chair and member of Jammu and Kashmir’s political affairs panel a week earlier.

According to Azad, the Congress has lost its will and ability to fight for what’s right for the country in his resignation letter to party leader Sonia Gandhi. It was due to the party being run by a small group of AICC leaders, he said.

Following their resignations, five former MLAs from Jammu and Kashmir resigned from the Congress, including Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Haji Abdul Rashid, and Mohammad Amin Bhat.

Subash Gupta from Kathua and Sham Lal Bhagat from Doda submitted their resignation letters on Monday, including former Congress MLA Gulam Hyder Malik from Kathua’s Bani.
Despite his best wishes for Congress, Azad said “the party needs medicines more than my wishes”. Moreover, these medicines are being provided to Congress by compounders rather than doctors, and specialists are needed,” Azad said.

In Congress, he said, the party leadership does not have time to address issues.

In states, the Congress gives such leaders and promotes those who cause people to quit the party instead of uniting them,” he said.

PTI reports that he decided to leave the Congress because of the party’s weak foundation.
