A group of cheetahs brought from Namibia and released last month in the Kuno National Park in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh may have been responsible for the spread of lumpy virus disease among cattle, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole claimed on Monday.
Maharashtra has suffered thousands of cattle deaths caused by lumpy virus.
Patole told reporters in Bhandara that diseases like lumpy virus are being brought to India for the first time in order to destroy farmers.
A cheetah was brought from Nigeria to the country on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday (September 17) to fight the lumpy virus disease.
In response to the comments, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted that the cheetahs were imported from Namibia and not Nigeria.
In addition to asking whether cheetahs could end poverty, unemployment, and inflation in India, Patole also questioned whether farmers and Indian borders would be secured if cheetahs were brought to India.
This is an event and brings foreign diseases into the country.” Patole said. “Never before have cows and oxen perished from such diseases. For the first time, such diseases are being brought into India to destroy the farmers.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now been exposed to its true face, and farmers will soon put an end to the ruling regime, he said.
Prime Minister Modi released eight cheetahs in Kuno National Park on September 17 after they arrived from Namibia by special flight.
