In celebration of Subhas Chandra Bose’s recently unveiled statue, drones lit up the night sky over India Gate on Friday night.
In eight different formations, the drones flew in phases, including ‘Jai Hind, Netaji’s portrait, and Netaji’s statue.
Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for Culture, attended the event as well.
At the iconic India Gate, @MinOfCultureGoI organized a spellbinding drone show. “In a tweet and sharing some photos of the show, Lekhi said, “The aerial drone show paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and was accompanied by a cultural festival featuring more than 500 folk and tribal artists from across India.”
People were also invited to witness the show.
She tweeted, “Don’t miss this fascinating drone show about Netaji Bose’s life between 9-11th September.
In a lawn near India Gate, a team of engineers and technicians had been busy setting up the connections for a grid of drones as dusk fell over Central Vista.
An official of the Culture Ministry told PTI shortly before the start of the drone show that 250 drones would be used, and the last formation would include the new grand statue unveiled by the prime minister today. The drone show would depict Netaji’s life and legacy.
Approximately 8:35 pm, the show started and lasted 10 minutes. As the show unfolded, people attempted to capture it on their mobile phones.
During the Beating the Retreat ceremony earlier this year over Vijay Chowk, the same innovators presented a 1,000-drone show.
In order for the 28-ft-tall statue under the canopy facing India Gate to be transported to Delhi, a makeshift road had to be built from a monolith block of jet black granite sourced from a quarry in Telangana.
As reported by the Ministry of Culture, the statue required 26,000 man-hours of “intense artistic endeavor.”
