Although some establishments resumed operations in the evening, Gurdaspur and its satellite towns observed a complete bandh. A complete closure was enforced by Shiv Sena activists until 5 p.m.
Since auto-rickshaws and other modes of transportation stayed off the roads, people arriving in the city for medical treatment were most affected.
For two hours in the morning, Shiv Sena activists blocked government and private buses from entering the local bus stand.
There was a near complete bandh in Batala, Dinanagar, Sri Hargobindpur, Dera Baba Nanak, Fatehgarh Churian, and Qadian. The situation was handled by special teams formed by SSP Deepak Hilori.
Nine states were supposed to participate in the Lok Utsav cultural festival.
