On Friday evening, six people drowned in Haryana’s Mahendergarh and Sonipat districts while immersing Lord Ganesh idols. According to them, four youths drowned in Mahendergarh’s canal, and two in Sonipat’s Yamuna river.
Four people were brought to the hospital dead in the Mahendergarh incident, Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar told reporters. Mahendergarh canal current swept away nine youths carrying a nearly seven-foot idol for immersion when the group was carrying the idol. Rescue efforts were launched by the district administration with the assistance of the NDRF. Despite the fact that four people died, others were rescued and hospitalized.
