In response to Jagmeet Brar’s anti-party remarks, the Shiromani Akali Dal issues a show cause notice

Jagmeet Singh Brar, a former MP, has been issued a show cause notice by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) requesting him to explain his anti-party remarks within one week, failing which disciplinary action will be taken.

Sikander Singh Maluka, chairman of the SAD disciplinary committee, issued Brar a show cause notice today.

The notice stated that the former MP had been accused of three specific offenses. There was a complaint filed against him by party workers in Maur constituency who argued that his needless statements had damaged the party’s reputation.

Brar has also uploaded on social media some video clips promoting factionalism and division, which the disciplinary committee has taken note of. As well, the party has taken issue with Jagmeet Brar’s press conference in Chandigarh on October 10 where he appointed himself as the convener of a 21-member unity coordination committee, despite not being authorized to do so.

As a senior leader, Brar should have exercised restraint and expressed his views in official party meetings instead of going public with them, according to the disciplinary committee.
