In the wake of Kamal Nath’s attendance at a Sikh event, controversy erupts

Congress leader Kamal Nath’s attendance at a Sikh function in Indore has sparked controversy, with Ragi Manpreet Singh Kanpuri criticizing the organizers. In the aftermath of Nath’s departure, a group of community members “purified” the venue with holy water led by a local BJP leader.

A video posted on social media on Wednesday purportedly showed a furious Kanpuri obliquely referencing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. According to eyewitnesses, the organizers gave mementos to politicians, which delayed the kirtan.

MP Narottam Mishra, a BJP leader and minister of home, called the incident “shameful”. A SIT was asked by the Delhi High Court in January to file a report on a case involving Kamal Nath and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. There was no evidence that Nath had committed any crimes.
