India-US troops board the Mi-17V5 helicopter for the Yudh Abhyas Exercise 2022

During the Yudh-Abhyas exercise 2022, held less than 100 kilometers from the Chinese border, Indian and US troops boarded Russian-made Mi-17V5 helicopters in Auli, Uttarakhand.

During the exercise, troops will conduct heliborne operations at high altitudes.

Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska, hosted the last joint exercise between India and the US to share best practices, techniques, tactics, and procedures.

ASSAM Regiment and 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division are participating in the exercise. Under Chapter VII of the UN mandate, the training schedule focuses on employing an integrated battle group.

The purpose of this army exercise is to benefit from the professional skills and experiences of both armies, to conduct a Command Post Exercise, and to conduct Expert Academic Discussions (EAD) on carefully selected topics. Field Training Exercises include validation of integrated battle groups and force multipliers, the establishment and operation of surveillance grids, the validation of operational logistics, mountain warfare skills, casualty evacuation, and combat medical aid in adverse terrain and climatic conditions. Among the combat skills exchanged and practiced during the exercise are combat engineering, use of UAS/Counter UAS techniques, and information operations.

In addition to peacekeeping and peace enforcement operations, the joint exercise will also focus on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR). Both nations’ troops will work together to accomplish common goals. According to the Defence Ministry, soldiers from both nations will practice launching swift and coordinated relief efforts in the event of a natural catastrophe.
