Infantry Day: Army chief Rajnath Singh will attend today’s event in J-K

A celebration marking the 75th anniversary of Infantry Day will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande attending.

This year’s Infantry Day marks the first military operation of Independent India to protect Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan, commemorating the arrival of the Indian Army at Budgam airfield on October 27, 1947.

On October 26, 1947, the Union of India and the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir signed an instrument of accession, which brought the Army to the airfield.

There will also be a number of other top officers of the armed forces present as part of the Infantry Day anniversary in Jammu and Kashmir, a top official told PTI.

On Thursday, historic Budgam landings will be reenacted, as part of other events planned to mark this milestone event.
