Is your Aadhaar card being misused? See how many SIM cards your name has been issued

It is common for us to share our Aadhaar cards with people for various reasons, such as getting a bank loan or getting a WiFi connection. The result is that our Aadhaar cards are vulnerable to misuse without our knowledge. If someone took out a loan with it, what would happen? Can someone get a SIM card using your Aadhaar card?

Mobile connections per person increased to 18 in 2018 under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). A total of 9 SIM cards are devoted to mobile use and the remaining 9 are dedicated to M2M (Machine to Machine) communication. It was mandated in 2019 that all SIM cards be linked to Aadhaar numbers.

A new website has been launched by the Department of Telecommunications in response to concerns about unauthorised use of Aadhaar numbers for issuance of mobile SIM cards.

If you wish to find out if your Aadhaar card has active SIM cards, please follow these steps:

* Go to tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in portal

* Then enter your mobile number

* Click on ‘Request OTP’

* Once you click on the ‘Request OTP’, it will lead you to the OTP panel

* Paste the OTP into the given box, and then click ‘Validate’

* You can now view mobile phone numbers/SIM cards associated with your name/Aadhaar

Click on the left checkbox to report any unknown numbers in the list. To discontinue the number, you should also contact the telecom service provider.
