March by SGPC over HSGMC

It is against the validation of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Act, 2014 that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) carried out a ‘rosh march’ (protest) in Amritsar today.

Along with black flags, protesters marched from the Golden Temple to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

In an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Harjinder Singh Dhami highlighted how the Sikh body was being divided by law.

All gurdwaras and Sikh institutions located in Haryana have been given control by the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) on September 22.

As a result of this move, Dhami said, the minority communities would be dominated. Other minority communities should also be alarmed by it. “A decision was taken to split the Sikh mini-parliament, and a deep-rooted conspiracy has led to a conflict,” he said. The PM and the Home Minister both did not have time for a dialogue when it came to the release of Bandi Singhs and other Panthic matters.

SGPC’s delegation was not invited to meet with Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar.

To review the judgment, the SGPC appealed to the Chief Justice of India during a special general house meeting on September 30.

A ‘chetna march’ was also called for on October 7 from Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo to Takht Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib.

As the memorandum was to be collected by the Additional DC in the absence of DC Harpreet Singh Sudan, high drama prevailed at the Administrative Complex. As soon as the protesters submitted the memorandum, they lifted the dharna.
