To improve the quality of medical education and patient care, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges to deploy Aadhaar-enabled Biometric Attendance Systems (AEBAS) and Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS) by October 10.
NMC has mandated that all colleges have a fully functional HMIS that includes an OPD/IPD registration module, a casualties and emergency module, and an OT-minor and major surgery module.
It is a requirement that colleges have Laboratory Management Information System modules to depict the daily registration of lab tests, including pathological and radiological procedures.
In some private medical colleges and hospitals, the HMIS provides online information about the attendance of doctors, paramedical staff, and employees, along with the presence of medicines and records of various departments.
