On Thursday, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat met All India Imam Organisation chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi.
RSS’s outreach to other communities and faiths is part of its ongoing outreach efforts.
In the national Capital, RSS functionaries met at a mosque to connect with people from a cross-section of society, according to an RSS functionary.
It was reported in Tuesday’s Hindustan Times that the Sangh chief said that amity between different faiths and communities is essential for India to advance.
Five eminent Muslims met Bhagwat with the goal of developing a strategy for amity and communal harmony. Included in the group were Najeeb Jung, the former LG of Delhi, and SY Quraishi, the former election commissioner.
There was an agreement between the two sides to find areas of disagreement and meet with representatives from other faiths.
The RSS leaders pointed out that while the five representatives objected to Muslims being referred to as Pakistani and terrorists, Hindus find it objectionable to be referred to as non-believers.
There is a plan to resolve issues simmering for years and end conflict, according to one member present at the meeting.
In order to maintain communal harmony and internal security, this is being done, according to him.
