Mercedes-Benz launches first ‘Made in India’ electric vehicle, the EQS 580

Mercedes-Benz India unveiled the EQS 580 4Matic on Friday, a “Made in India” electric vehicle (EV) that costs just 1.55 crore (S-Class prices begin at 1.60 crore, all ex-showroom).
This is the first locally produced (assembled) electric vehicle in India and the 14th “Made in India” Mercedes-Benz model. According to the Automotive Research Association of India, the EQS has a range between 677 km (real-world conditions) and 857 km (test conditions).

As reported by the Hindu Businessline, the car is equipped with a 400V lithium-ion battery and has a high power density lithium-ion battery with a usable energy content of 107.8 kWh.

As part of its efforts to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz India will establish the world’s largest “ultra-fast charging network,” which will reach 80% of India by 2022. For the first year, the Mercedes-Benz electric lineup will be available exclusively to Mercedes-Benz customers, with 24/7 charging services provided at no charge.

The vehicle has nine airbags and a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Like every other Mercedes, the EQS features a robust passenger cell, unique deformation zones, and cutting-edge restraint systems.
