When Virat Kohli is at his peak, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi suggests he retire from international cricket.
There should not be a situation where Kohli – who recently brought up his long-awaited 71st international century – is dropped from the Indian team, according to Afridi. In the wake of Afridi’s comment, ex-Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has taken a shot at the former Pakistan player. As a dig at Afridi, the senior spinner wrote: “Dear Afridi, some people retire only once, so please spare Virat Kohli all this.”
In the beginning, Virat struggled before he was able to make a name for himself. He is a champion, and I believe you must reach a point when you are headed towards retirement. But in such a scenario, the goal should be to end your career on a high note,” Afridi told Samaa TV earlier.
“It shouldn’t reach the point where you are dropped from the team, but rather when you are at your best.” Though it rarely happens, he said, “Very few cricketers, especially those from the Asia Cup, make such a decision, but I think Virat will do so in the same way as he began his career.”
It won’t be long before the Indian team travels to Australia for the much-anticipated T20 World Cup. It will be expected that Kohli will contribute big runs to the team.
