A 24-year-old man jumped to his death from the fifth floor of Purab Premium Apartments in Sector 88 on Friday morning.
He was living with his grandmother in a rented apartment in Barnala, Punjab, but had been living alone for the last month. According to investigators, he spoke to one of the residents at 1.45 am and jumped off the fifth floor after a while. It was an instant death for him. He was discovered by residents in the morning.
Despite five attempts, the man failed to obtain a visa to Canada, causing him to become stressed. A computer course was being offered to him in Mohali at the time. A copy of the letter has been sent to his parents in Canada, who are already there.
Police recovered some cigarettes and a bottle of liquor from his room, according to investigating officer Burma Singh.
As per Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the police have shifted the deceased’s body to Phase 6 of the civil hospital for autopsy after his relatives arrive.
