Official: operation to end by evening after 2 dead, 7 trapped in J&K tunnel collapse

Mohita Sharma, Ramban SSP, said, “We are approaching the end of this rescue operation.”.

Deputy Commissioner of Ramban Mussharat Islam and SSP Mohita Sharma said that seven more people are trapped and they expect the operation to be over by the evening. However, the terrain continues to pose a challenge to the rescue operation.

After the collapse, workers believed trapped under debris were rescued.

Rescue operations resumed early on Saturday after the authorities suspended the process last night due to a fresh landslide.

As soon as possible, we have resumed debris clearing operations at the landslide site. The number of machinery and technical personnel has been increased in order to finish the work as soon as possible,” Javed, Naib Tehsildar, told ANI.

Among the victims are Jadav Roy, Gautam Roy, Dipak Roy and Parimal Roy, all of whom are from West Bengal, Shiva Chouhan from Assam, Nepalese nationals Navaraj Chaudhary and Kushi Ram Chaudhary, both of whom reside in Ramban, J&K’s Marog District.
