After taking over as Prime Minister of India in 2014, PM Modi has celebrated Diwali every year with soldiers. I wish you all a happy Diwali from the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier and with the brave jawans and officers of the Armed Forces,” he had tweeted in 2014.
To commemorate the Indian Army’s victory in the 1965 war, he visited three war memorials in Punjab in 2015. The 1965 war also marked its 50th anniversary.
PM Narendra Modi met soldiers near China’s border in Himachal Pradesh in 2016. A number of interactions were held between him and officials from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the Dogra Scouts, and the Army Sumbodh.
When Prime Minister Modi visited the Gurez Sector in North Kashmir in 2017, he said the experience gave him new energy.
As part of his surprise visit to the troops, the PM visited Harsil in Uttarakhand in 2018. Following this, a visit to Kedarnath Dham was made.
A visit to Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 was followed by a visit to Longewala in 2020, where he said that Diwali was complete only when he was with the soldiers.
During his visit to Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir in 2021, the PM said, “I feel privileged that I was able to celebrate Diwali with our brave soldiers.”
