On Saturday, a court ordered the suspect in the murder of Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader Sudhir Suri to be held in police custody for seven days. Security was tight as Sandeep Singh, alias Sunny, appeared in court.
During a protest outside Gopal Mandir here on Friday, Suri and his supporters were shot dead.
Suri was allegedly shot with Sandeep Singh’s licensed weapon, according to the police. A few metres away is his garment shop.
His links with radical outfits are being investigated by the police, according to sources. He arrived at the scene in a car with the sticker of Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh’s group, Waris Punjab De. He uploaded a video of his meeting with Amritpal Singh to social media on Saturday. After detaining Amritpal today, the Moga police released him. A team from the NIA met with police officers today.
