Earlier this week, the Punjab Police arrested two people in Amritsar for spying and sharing sensitive army information with the ISI.
Mohammad Shamshad of Bihar and Zafar Riaz of Kolkata have been identified as the two arrested spies.
In 2005, Zafar married Rabia, a Pakistani national, and the couple lived in Kolkata, but in 2012, the couple settled in Lahore, where he was allegedly lured by ISI agents.
Using encrypted apps, Zafar, according to the police, shared sensitive videos and photos of Indian Army installations with his handlers.
The lemonade stall near the Amritsar railway station is owned by Mohammed Shamshad, Zafar’s bihar-born associate.
He knew Shamshad and had introduced him to ISI officials as well.
According to an FIR registered at Amritsar police station, both the accused have been charged under sections 3, 4, 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.
Both have also admitted having shot photographs and videos of buildings, vehicles, and other structures belonging to the Army.
