Police recover Rs 1 crore worth of jewelry from a Noida cab left by an NRI

An NRI who left his bag full of jewellery worth Rs 1 crore in a cab in Ghaziabad was rescued on Thursday by Greater Noida Police.

An Uber cab was tracked by local police within four hours, and the jewellery was recovered.

It is believed that Nikhilesh Kumar Sinha and his family live in London, and they were in Greater Noida for the wedding of his daughter.

One of the bags containing jewellery and other valuable items was missing when they reached Sarovar Portico hotel in Gaur City area, and a police spokesperson said it may have been left in the cab they took to get there.

At around 4 p.m., the family approached the police station, and a search was immediately begun. After receiving the cab driver’s number from the family, we inquired with Uber’s Gurgaon office about its location and traced it to Ghaziabad,” said Anil Kumar Rajpoot, the local police station’s in-charge.

Police say the Uber driver was located in Ghaziabad’s Lal Kuan district after four hours of frantic searches, and the bag with all the belongings was recovered from the boot of the vehicle.

According to the police official, the driver stated that he was unaware that the bag was in his cab. At the police station, the bag was opened in front of the complainant, his relatives, and the driver.”

The bag contained jewellery worth more than 1 crore. Mr Sinha received it later. Police were thanked by the family for their efforts, the official said.
