Sachin Tendulkar To Flag Off Mumbai Half Marathon On Aug 21

Mumbai: The Mumbai Half Marathon 2022 will be flagged off by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar at Jio Gardens, Bandra Kurla Complex on Sunday (August 21), returning to the city’s race circuit after a covid-induced hiatus.Tendulkar will also honor the winners of the half marathon and timed 10k runs. MHM, one of India’s most prestigious road races, has attracted over 13,500 runners from all walks of life. The organisers announced on Friday that over 4,000 people will participate in the 21k challenge, while 7,000 and 2,500, respectively, will run the timed 10k and 5k runs. “Running has many benefits, both physical and mental,” said Tendulkar, the Brand Ambassador of Ageas Federal Life Insurance — the title sponsor of the Mumbai Half Marathon.

“With the pandemic, fitness has become increasingly important, and people have become more aware of the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle.” Over the years, the Ageas Federal Life Insurance marathons have sparked a fitness movement across the country. We see a variety of runners at the Mumbai Half Marathon every year, from serious runners to amateurs to those who come with their families and friends. “I wish all the participants a safe and successful run,” the cricket icon said in the release. The half marathon will take place at Jio Gardens in BKC, and will consist of two loops of 10k each.

At 5.15 in the morning, the half-marathon (21k) will begin, followed by the 10k at 6.20 in the morning, and the 5k at 8 in the morning. With more than a dozen corporate teams participating, the event, now in its fifth year, will add a competitive edge and excitement. Approximately 2,000 Indian Navy runners will also take part in the event. Half marathon participants will include an 82-year-old male and a 72-year-old female.

In the 5K challenge, two of the youngest runners will be 7-year-old girls and 8-year-old boys. An official NGO partner this year is Childline 1098, the national emergency helpline and crisis response service for children in distress. Mumbai Half Marathon organizers NEB Sports announced that permissions and clearances have been granted to resume their various races.
