Delhi reported 1,797 cases of Covid-19 and one death due to the coronavirus-causing infection on Friday, amid growing fears of a fourth wave.
Covid positivity rates in the national capital increased to 8.18 percent after today’s addition, according to data from the health department. Delhi has logged over 1,300 cases in a day for the third consecutive day. For the fourth day in a row, more than 1,000 cases have been logged in the capital. In its latest bulletin, the Delhi government said the tally of Covid cases has reached 19,19,025 while the death toll has risen to 26,226, the department said. Between June 10 and 15, the Delhi police issued more than 5,300 challans and imposed more than Rs 26 lakh in fines on those flouting Covid norms amid a surge in cases, officials said.
Overall, Rs 14,60,980 in fines were collected, almost half of the fines imposed by the districts. Some people pay the fine amount on the spot, but others pay it later in court, according to the officials.

According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Friday, the country reported a rise of 12,847 coronavirus infections in a single day, bringing the tally to 4,32,70,577. Active cases also increased by more than 4,800.
As of 8 am, 14 new fatalities had also been recorded, bringing the death toll to 5,24,817.
According to the health ministry, active cases now account for 0.15 percent of total infections, while the recovery rate for Covid-19 was recorded at 98.64 percent. One in twenty cases was fatal.
