‘Self-defense’ argued Bihar man who killed son-in-law. A CCTV clip was found later.

A CCTV camera in a salon in Bihar’s Buxar has led to the arrest of two men who originally tried to convince the police that they killed their son-in-law in self-defense on Sunday, police said.

Sunil Pathak, the father-in-law of the victim Monu Rai, was accompanied by his elder son Prabhat Pathak, the superintendent of police (SP) in Buchar said. Kumar said they were arrested, the firearms were seized, and they were sent to prison.

During the young couple’s elopement, Sunil Pathak also filed an abduction case against Monu Rai, the senior police officer said. Investigators backed off once they realized the two were consenting adults.

Police said the Pathaks did not, however.

As seen in video footage at the salon, Kumar said Monu Rai was seated for a shave when Sunil Pathak, his son included, shot Monu Rai.

“After killing Monu, Sunil Pathak reached a hospital for his treatment for a bullet wound on his hand to support his self-defence story. However, the CCTV video proved beyond doubt that Monu was killed in a well-planned plot,” he added.

Monu Rai died shortly thereafter. Sunil Pathak and other family members were charged with first information reports (FIRs) by his father Dipak Rai.

Dipak Rai said he had been threatening to kill or abduct Monu for a long time. He was ultimately killed.
