The government tabled data in the Legislative Council on Friday showing Bengaluru ranked 17th nationally in terms of financial progress under the Smart Cities initiative.
A status report on Smart Cities projects has been provided by Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj in response to MLC U B Venkatesh’s question. Seven cities in the state are participating in the Smart Cities project. Tumakuru ranks seventh in financial progress, followed by Shivamogga (9), and Belagavi (10). Mangaluru is 31 and Hubballi-Dharwad is 28.
So far, the Union government has released Rs 2,704 crore for the Smart Cities project, while the state has released Rs 2,900 crore. The project has received a total of Rs 755 crore so far.
