Spat between AAP MLA and senior police officer over ‘property dispute’ in Jalandhar

Naresh Dogra, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security and Operations) in Jalandhar, and AAP MLA Raman Arora had an ugly spat over a property dispute between two shopkeepers in Shastri Nagar market on Wednesday.
In contrast to Arora, Dogra sided with the cloth merchant.

A compromise was reached later at a media house in the city. Things only got worse as both sides used abusive language and manhandled one another.

Arora’s supporters, such as MLA Sheetal Angural, also arrived at the scene to support Dogra. DCP (Investigation) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja helped Dogra.

It lasted until the early hours of Thursday for the two sides to resolve their differences. The SC/ST Act and Section 307 of the IPC were later invoked by Angural, Arora and their supporters against the DCP.

There have been viral videos of the incident. Supporters of the MLA allegedly demanded a medico-legal report from the local civil hospital.

Party leader Partap Bajwa tweeted condemnations after the incident. There is no safety for even a senior police officer under the AAP government. “What can be said about the safety and security of the average man.”

As a result, he slammed the two MLAs from the AAP. “These MLAs are habitual offenders of the law, so their conduct is well known. Further, I have been informed that rather than charging the MLAs, people who were assaulted were slapped with serious sections of the IPC.”
