State and UT health officials are urged to expedite vaccination programs; a vaccination campaign is announced

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan reviewed the Coronavirus vaccination program with all the states and union territories on Friday (May 20, 2022).

According to ANI report, Rajesh Bhushan advised them to expedite Covid-19 vaccination during a meeting. To accomplish this, the Union Health Ministry also plans to conduct “Har Ghar Dastak-2.2” campaigns in June and July. Despite India’s cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeding 191.96 crore, a large number of people remain unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

State and UTs have been provided with more than 193.53 crore vaccine doses and over 16.72 crore unutilized vaccine doses remain in their possession.

“The Union Health Secretary has instructed States and UTs with extra doses to use them before vaccines expire,” said sources.

The Government of India has been providing free COVID vaccines to states and union territories through the nationwide vaccination campaign.

India reported 2,259 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with the recovery rate at 98.75 per cent. Over 3.24 crore doses of vaccine have been administered to children in the 12-14 age group.

The Union Health Ministry reported 2,259 new cases of Covid-19 in India on Friday, increasing the total number of Coronavirus infections to 4,31,31,822, while active cases decreased to 15,044. Today’s virus tally is slightly lower than yesterday’s. Over 350 cases have been observed to have declined in the active caseload over the past 24 hours. The death toll climbed to 5,24,323 with 20 new fatalities, according to data updated at 8am.
