Jharkhand’s Dumka district is home to a group of school students who allegedly beat up their teachers for giving low scores, which caused them to fail exams.
In a First Information Report (FIR), 11 students and the headmaster have been accused.
A FIR has been registered against the headmaster and 11 students on the complaint of teacher Suman Kumar and clerk Soneram Chaure, said Gopikandar PS in-charge, Nityanand Bhokta.
The Dumka education officers arrived at the scene after the incident was reported, and students complained that their teachers had given them very few marks in practical classes.
We received information about the incident and discussed it with all teachers. Surendra Hebram, Block Education Extension Officer, Gopikandar, Dumka, said students were given very low marks in practicals and did not receive an adequate response from their teachers when we arrived there.
According to Kumar Suman, a teacher, students claimed their results had been spoiled after calling the school under the guise of a meeting.
As Suman explained, “students called us under the pretext of holding a meeting and complained that their results were spoiled. That was because their practical marks weren’t included in the results. So we couldn’t do anything,” he said.
