The Chief Justice of India will be sworn in on November 9 by Justice DY Chandrachud

Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud was appointed Chief Justice of India by President Droupadi Murmu on Monday. The Union law minister Kiren Rijiju shared a tweet about this issue.

Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud has been appointed Chief Justice of India by the Hon’ble President as per the Constitution of India, according to Rijiju’s tweet. A statement was also released later by the law ministry.

Moreover, Rijiju wished the next Chief Justice all the best for the November 9 oath-taking ceremony.

In a recommendation to the Union government last week, Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit had initiated the process of appointing his successor by proposing Justice Chandrachud, the highest ranking Supreme Court judge.

Justice Lalit will serve as CJI for 74 days, while Justice Chandrachud will serve for two years. November 10, 2024 will be the last day to serve as Justice Chandrachud.
