On Monday, officials said five doctors at a Noida private hospital were booked for negligence in treating a COVID-19 patient during the second wave of the pandemic in 2021.
The FIR claims that the patient’s family, who purchased remdesivir injection based on a doctor’s prescription, was not administered it in time at the hospital.
According to Gautam Buddh Nagar’s deputy chief medical officer Dr Tikam Singh, a first information report (FIR) has been filed against Yatharth Hospital’s doctors under Indian Penal Code section 304A (causing death by negligence).
The Ghaziabad-based family’s complaint was also investigated by Dr Singh, who headed an official investigation committee.
Kapil Tyagi, the managing director of Yatharth Hospital, disputed the claims.
Despite being in a critical condition, the patient was brought to our hospital. It is my belief that had the patient been delayed even half an hour, he would not have survived. But here, his condition improved, and after 35 days, the family brought him to another hospital in Delhi,” Tyagi said.
As a result of the challenging circumstances during the second wave of the pandemic last year, he said the hospital’s doctors did a good job.
Moreover, there are multiple research reports that show remdesivir does not have any effect in treating Coronavirus, despite the family’s allegation that remdesivir injections were not administered in time. Tyagi said it is very unfortunate for the family to have lost a young child.
Police in-charge Paramhans Tiwari said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken on the basis of results.
