First-ever sex change surgery has been performed on a woman constable in Punjab Police. After undergoing gender change surgery, a woman constable posted at one of the district’s police stations petitioned to have her gender changed from female to male in the department’s records.
The constable suffered from gender dysphoria, according to information. As of December 2020, she has undergone surgery to resign her gender.
Police Department approval was not sought before the surgery by the constable. After getting a certificate in this regard from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, she has applied for the change of name and gender in the department record.
After feeling more connected to the male gender, the cop changed her gender after serving in the police force since 2011.
Despite stiff opposition from their families, the constable lived with her childhood friend from her village in Bathinda district in 2012. To stay together, she even approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection from their families. Both filed harassment complaints against one another in 2019, however, causing the relationship to deteriorate.
In response to the issue, the IGP, Bathinda range, MS Chinna stated, “We have never received such a request before.”. “We will seek legal advice and forward the case to our head office for further action.”
Upon being contacted over the phone, the female constable refused to comment, claiming that it was personal to her.
