The kin of Bhagat Singh are pleased that Chandigarh airport will be named after him

Distinguished professor Jagmohan Singh, nephew of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, has welcomed the decision of the Centre to name the Chandigarh Airport in his honor.

As a tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today that Chandigarh airport will now be named after him as part of his Mann ki Baat address.

Professor Jagmohan said, “We welcome the decision to honor the martyr, but we would like to remind you that this demand was raised when Punjab gave land for the airport expansion in 2007. Shaheed Bhagat Singh was to be the name of the airport. For political reasons, the Haryana government wanted the airport to be named after Mangal Sen. According to the Aviation Minister in the Modi government, airports will not be named after people as a matter of policy. All considerations have been outweighed by the love and fan following for Shaheed Bhagat Singh.”

In addition, he warned that Bhagat Singh was opposed to privatization and capitalism. Public property was important to him. Professor Jagmohan cautioned the government to follow his ideology as well.
