An official said the 50-year-old man was killed by a tiger on Sunday afternoon in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district when he went into a forest area with his mother and wife to collect some wood.
His identification of the deceased, a labourer from Halda village in Bramhapuri, is Rajendra Arjun Kamdi. “The man went to a nearby forest with his mother and wife to collect wood to build the fence. A tiger lurking in the bushes attacked him, killing him instantly. After raising the alarm, the feline fled.” said a senior official from the Bramhapuri forest range.
Villagers and forest officials reached the scene as soon as they were notified.
Residents of nearby villages were frightened by the incident.
Local leaders said villagers would protest if man-wild animal conflicts continue unchecked.
