After a massive fire at an office building near the Mundka Metro Station, NDRF personnel conduct rescue and relief efforts.
According to an official, Delhi Police have arrested Manish Lakra, the owner of the ill-fated building that was gutted in the fire two days ago.
“We have arrested Manish Lakra. We conducted raids and he was arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Sharma.
As of now, it is not known whether or not Lakra, a resident of Mundka village, was present in the building at the time of the incident. He lived on the top floor of that building and escaped after the incident that took the lives of 27 people.
Several raids were conducted in Delhi and Haryana before we found his location, the DCP said.
Two owners of the building — Harish Goel and Varun Goel — were also arrested. The building had four floors. The first, second, and third floors were occupied by a single company whose owners were detained as well.
When the incident occurred, most of the people were on the second floor of the building.
A detailed report concerning Mundka’s building, including its type of area and tentative construction year, was requested by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Saturday.
As part of the order by the civic body, the zonal commissioners of North Delhi were also directed to undertake a detailed survey in their respective areas to check if any prohibited activities are taking place in areas that do not conform to standards, so that such a tragedy will not occur again.
In accordance with the order issued by the NDMC authorities, notices must be issued and punitive action must be taken within 10 days along with a completion report to be sent to the additional commissioner responsible for the factory licensing department.
Despite police saying 19 people were still unaccounted for, people frantically searched for their loved ones.
