Partap Singh Bajwa, the Congress leader and leader of the Opposition in Punjab, criticized the Bhagwant Mann government for alleged laxity in preventing illegal mining.
Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit expressed concern over illegal mining in the border areas. Bajwa said that if Mann failed to check it immediately, it would compromise national security.
The Congress leader revealed he was a part of a delegation that delivered a memo to the Punjab Governor on September 1. The memorandum expressed Bajwa’s concern about deep ditches being dug near Punjab borders, which pose a serious threat to national security. Following a patient hearing with the delegation, the Governor promised to take action in this regard. Punjab, being a border state, could be vulnerable both internally and externally.
