There have been 39 deaths on the Char Dham Yatra route; medically unfit pilgrims are advised not to travel

According to the Uttarakhand Director-General Health Dr Shailja Bhatt, at least 39 pilgrims have died so far on the Char Dham Yatra route.

A high blood pressure, cardiac-related issue, and mountain sickness were the cause of deaths, she said. The Char Dham Yatra to the four famous Himalayan shrines in Uttarakhand began on May 3 with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples. Pilgrims who are medically unfit and suffer from physical illnesses have been advised not to travel.

May 6 marked the opening of Kedarnath’s famous Shiva shrine, and May 8 marked the opening of Badrinath’s famous Shiva shrine. Following the instruction of the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state health department is conducting health screenings at the Char Dham Yatra entry and registration sites.
